Having a play

Today was the perfect day to get the sewing machine out for a whirl.

The weather has been pretty miserable and considering more then half of our family is sick at the moment it was the little break I needed.

Our home during the holidays seems to be a revolving door to all our friends kids who love coming to stay...thankfully Chloe came to visit, boys just don't want to sew!

So, today Miss Chloe and I decided to chill out in my craft room and sew up a storm! Well Chloe did, I just supervised. Chloe decided she wanted to make something for her little sister so she picked out some fabric and thought up an idea and off to work we went. Cutting, measuring, stitching...it was a lot of fun and the motivation I needed to get back into my sewing.

The finished product looked awesome and Chloe's little sister will adore it I'm sure.

I will have to add a picture tomorrow as I took the photo of the end result on my mobile so we could send to mum...bugger!

Looks like this was just the push I needed too!

I'm heading back to school !!!

I have been accepted into Uni to study Behavioural Science (Psychology).

I have always been interested in what makes people tick and why they do the things they do...and since my own family is quite disfunctional (haha...not naming names) I guess I will have a lot of insight and plenty of people to use as case studies !!!

I wonder if I will be able to finally figure out why teenagers can't pick up after themselves, need to be told a thousand times to do something & think they know it all ???

I think if I can work that one out it will be all worth it !!!

3 handsome little snowmen

I made these 3 handsome little snowmen for my SSCS partner this year for the ornament part of the swap

I just love them!

The pattern is from Rosalie Quinlan's Petit..Noel book that is full of cute Christmas projects.

I really like working with woolen felt...these colours are from the 4 ewes range at Hatched & Patched.

My cousin has placed an order for these little guys for next year but in lime green, hot pink and aqua!

I will be making myself more of these little cuties too thats for sure.

Catching my breathe

Phew!...what a hectic start to the year it's been at our place. The ritual thing of places to go and people to see which is usual for this time of year seems to be frequent on our agenda. Today however...NOTHING, NO ONE...yay for me! Finally time to catch my breathe!

Whilst it's awesome seeing family and friends, I'm buggered!

So as a committment to myself for the New Year and I guess somewhat of a resolution I am going to take time out for just me! I have come to the realisation, the hard way may I add, that everything else has to take a bit of a back seat whilst I take the time I need to rejuvinate.

I'm taking time to smell the...hydrangea's???

Well, they don't smell but I love looking at them and my mums garden is full of these in the most magnificent shades or pink and purple...just beautiful!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

I love Christmas time...it's my favourite time of year.

This year is going to be extra special though...we will be sharing it with 2 teenagers!

I have learnt lots lately, things to ask and things not too. Things like whats on your Christmas wish list. A simple question I thought...boy was I wrong! Anything that begins with an 'I' tops the list. Things like 'I' Phone, 'I' Pod, 'I' Pad, 'I' Pod Touch! Phew...would need to take out a loan especially when it is x 2!

Our answer quite simply and in keeping with the 'I' theme was 'I don't think so!'

This week being the 1st week of December we will be putting up our Christmas decorations and I think my husband may even bite the bullet and put some Christmas lights on the house after much pestering from the teens.

We are all getting one this year...so excited!

It is a difficult time for the boys but we intend on making it as happy as possible for them.

Back to reality

Yes, I have been away from my blog for an eternity.

A lot has happened in that time...I'm now fulfilling my role as a Foster mum to 2 beautiful teenage boys Mr 14 and Mr 17. Am I crazy? I guess I am, but I wouldn't change it for the world. I'm even considering getting a little something...a tattoo with the word 'Patience' on my wrist to help remind me what the key to success is with these kids and it is just that. 'Patience'...and a pillow for every time you feel like you are banging your head up against a wall!

Also my husband Mark and I had the trip of a lifetime. We travelled to Ireland and Paris which was just awesome! I was home sick after the first week and drove Mark crazy I'm sure, but I still managed to enjoy myself and take in all the beauty that surrounded us.

Over the next few days I will post some of my fav photos from our travels...but today I will give you some from our first stop, Dublin Ireland.

Couldn't go to Dublin without visiting the Guinness Storehouse and then get the nearest...horse and cart to take us to the Temple Bar area

Our transport...I loved this!

Cobbled streets in the Temple Bar area...and our stop, an Irish pub of course! Great food, great irish music, great people and fabulous atmosphere too!

Im exhausted just remembering it all...

Well I will be back...sooner rather then later with more pics.

PS: Hoping to have my SSCS gifts all finished this weekend...not long now, how exciting!

Easy Peasy Pasta

I wanted to share this dish because its fast, simple and the kids seem to love it!

When the kids approve, I think It's got to be a winner so here it is...

My Easy Peasy Pasta recipe

Heat some olive oil in a pan...

Add 1 medium onion thinly diced, 6 rashers of bacon thinly sliced (I use shortcuts), 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic. I also added some mushrooms thinly sliced (only because the kids like them).

Once the onion and mushies have cooked through...

Add a can of diced tomatoes, stir through well and then add a 300ml carton of thickened cream and bring to the boil and then remove from the heat.

Before you begin, boil up your choice of pasta wether its spirals, shells or bowties then drain well and add to the saucy mix and you are done!

The thing I love the most about this dish is how versatile it is...

You can use tuna instead of bacon but you would need to drain it well and add once the saucey mix is ready, you can sustitute mushooms with any vegies your family likes and you can place in a baking dish one its all mixed add some cheese to the top and bake until golden brown!

Kids seem to love it and so do I.

Over the weekend I moved our birdhouse to another tree hoping that a little birdie may find it suitable enough to make a nest and raise a family.

For so long it remained vacant...lots of visitors but no takers.

Its amazing what a tree change can do!

We now have a little bird that is calling our birdhouse, home sweet home!

nestled high amongst the blossoms the redecorating has already begun...

feathers, twigs and other bits and pieces to make it more homely.

Although Im not a fan of birds I do like watching them visit our yard daily. There are so many varieties...they are so colourful and pretty. I think Mr & Mrs Willy Wagtail are the new tenants and hopefully they will be around for a while raising their family.

Home sweet home...there's no place like it!

Busy bee

Spring is almost here in Australia and there are plenty of tell tale signs about...

The weather is certainly warming up...

Blossoms are blooming...

I live near an orchard and they have thousands of fruit trees full of blossoms...It looks amazing when you drive past and see all the rows and rows of them. It's certainly a colour explosion!

I always plan to take my camera with me when I drive that way but always seem to forget it :(

There is lots happening around here too...

I'm starting my Spring cleaning. Its not my favourite job in the world but it's got to be done.

Nothing like a good clean up around the house from top to toe and a cull of things we have collected. All the cupboards get cleaned out, the pest man comes to visit, the carpet and window cleaners come to work their magic and everything will be all fresh and I will be left with some extra storage to boot!

We are also going on a months holiday to Ireland and France for all of October which should be fun...except for the flying part! I am a NERVOUS flyer and this will be the longest flight ever for me!

Also my beautiful husband is having a Birthday Party at home a week before we leave, so there is so much I want done before we have guests from all over arriving...my list seems to be never ending.

Oh well, better get back to it...my bedroom looks like a disaster zone at the moment and my staying, throw and donate piles are growing by the second!

Razorback Billy Cart Derby

The last few months my favourite boys and girls have been busy.

Busy scouring the streets for recyclable items that they could use for their billy cart for the Razorback billy cart derby.

There has been trials and errors and many test runs...my poor heart couldn't take much more!

Why do kids have no fear???

The day was a huge success with over 80 billy carts participating. The day raised much needed funds for Cawdor Public School and Cawdor RFS.

The event was a great family day and the weather was perfect too.

My big boy won his age race...

and Corey was desperate to take out the " Best stack of the day" award.

Well ok, it wasn't planned but it happened...he was winning too until my big boy decided to jump the hay bales and give him some extra pushing power to ensure a win...which obviously didnt happen!
Corey was not impressed...but had high hopes of winning an award for his stack!!

The day wasn't without injury though...

As a spectator and our team photographer I had a front row seat just after the finish line so I could be ready when my crew crossed the finish line. Great idea for photos, bad outcome for me.

See this cart??? Do ya..do ya???

I got run over by a tank!! No joke...!! Ok, it was a billy cart, not a tank but it certainly was over the maximum weight of 40kgs and its driver (a crazed child with the devil in his eyes) forgot to use his brakes and vered straight into me, knocking me to the ground!!
This photo was seconds before impact which cleary indicates a swerving motion instead of the straight line he should have been driving!!

Actually it was quite funny and a layed on the ground laughing for a little bit
(inside I had died from embarressment).

As I limped back to the car at the end of the day...I giggled as I listened to the kids making plans for a new and improved cart for next year...

Just a little something

I can hardly get over it myself!

Maybe I'm feeling a tad inspired and motivated to create something..maybe it's the cooler weather we have been having or maybe it's because my sewing room is so much more organised and inviting. Either way I am totally loving it!

This is a little something I have been working on...

All I need to do is stitch it all into place and buy some silica sand to fill it.

I just love Hatched and Patched projects and adore their felted woven wool too!

One day I will get to their bricks and mortar store(sigh)

I'm going to be a mum...a Foster mum!

I'm going to be a mum...a Foster mum!

These last few months have been some what busy to say the least. Busy attending training sessions and completing our assessment process to become Foster Parents.

We can hardly contain our excitement! The thoughts that run through our heads are giving us some sleepless nights...thinking things like 'how will we be as carers', 'will we be able to cope'...but, I guess every new parent has these thoughts.

Our life and home has always been filled with children and laughter and we feel so blessed to have had so many little and big people in our lives. As I've gotten older I have been feeling a little empty. You see, we don't have children of our own and I guess we have reached a point were we are comfortable in our lives and accepted the fact that we won't have our own flesh and blood kids and, it does get kind of quiet when all our little and big visitors go back home to their mums and dads. We have plenty of room and plenty of time and lots of love to give. So why not!

So the decision was made. In what has been recognised as the fastest growing industry, to become Foster Carers. To be able to share our home, love and understanding with kids of all ages that need it will be the most satisfying and probably heart breaking thing we will ever do, but we are up for the challenge.

We have had many people ask us 'why dont you just adopt' or tell us 'you guys are crazy'!

Crazy maybe, but we dont have the attitude that adopting kids will fulfill us with the need to 'have our own' kids. You never own a child wether they are your biological child or adopted. As a Foster Carer we can do everything a 'real' parent does and that even includes dealing with tantrums, cleaning up vomit and just knowing when they need a cuddle. As a parent you provide guidance and life skills that will allow them to make a life of their own when the time comes.

Some kids just dont have that...

Our fingers and toes are crossed that we can make a difference to at least one childs life.

We only have a 2 hour session to go and we cant wait to start making a difference!

My Zucchini Pie

This recipe has so many versions, but today I am going to share mine.

I love making this pie...full of goodness, great for lunch or dinner and you can eat it hot or cold!

Lets get started...

You will need...

4 eggs

1 grated carrot

2 grated zucchini's (squeeze excess juice out)

1 finely chopped small onion

3/4 cup of diced bacon pieces

1 cup of tasty cheese

lightly whisk your eggs as well as...

1/4 cup of milk

Salt & pepper to taste.

Once lightly whisked combine all ingredients into a bowl and mix thoroughly.

The mixture will be moist but not dripping.

Lightly spray your desired pie dish with canola oil.

(I use my glass pirex pie dish)

Place a serving of Lebanese bread into a pie dish and press bread to the shape of the dish, being careful not to tear it. Once in place pour in your bowl mixture and spread evenly around the dish.

I like to add a sprinkling of grated cheese on top too.

Place in a 200 degree oven and bake for approx 1 hour or until golden brown, with the centre of the pie being firm and springy not soft.

Mmm...yummy!

When you cut open your pie there shouldnt be any excessive juices.

Now you can sit back and enjoy!

I have also served these as mini pies just by using muffin trays. Also by doing it this way you can cater to different tastes and substitute for some other yummy ingredients like sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms or shredded chicken.

So do you??? Do you dare to share your own sewing space cleanout, cleanup, makeover...whatever, all for blogland to see???

Don't get to excited girls...I haven't started yet!

But...I am planning to have a red hot go at it...and I'm putting a time frame on it too!

I just love the pressure...haha

I want feel inspired...what better way to do it!

I have recently acquired some lovely pieces of furniture for my sewing room, which in fact has been transferred to a larger room in my home to accomodate these lovelies, much to my husbands head shaking and complaining...he is sooo painful at times!

and...I need to paint them white. Well I want too.

So, I thought I would have all this organised thoroughly...including the painting and placing of everything in my sewing room by the 24th of this month.

I really want to enjoy spending time in my sewing room this year and begin some projects that have been ear marked for way too long.

So I will take some before and after photos to share with you all on my progress before the big reveal!!

Time is of the essence...ciao!

Reflection

Another year has been farwelled and a new year greeted with expectations that it will be more fruitful then the one before it...

I am looking forward to lots of things happening in 2011.

My Niece Sienna starts kindergarten and celebrates her 5th Birthday.

My brother will get married and move into his new house.

There will be the pitter patter of tiny feet.

Our overseas holiday.

The list goes on...

For me personally it doesnt matter what year it is...

I'm here and I'm still kicking!

I'm going to take every day in my stride and just be happy for everything 2010 and the years before it have taught me, good and bad!

Most of all I am going to be thankful that I have an amazing family and a fantastic bunch of friends that I just adore and would be lost without. I dont tell them nearly enough how much I appreciate them and everything they do. Their unconditional love and support means the world to Mark and I.

Life doesnt always go to plan and it certainly doesnt come without setbacks and making a few mistakes. But, without it we wouldn't be who we are, feel the way we feel and appreciate the little things life has to offer.

So I welcome 2011...

and am excited about the year ahead and what it has to offer!

SSCS - what I made!

As my swap partner for the SSCS for 2010 was Barbara from bitzlis .

I can now show you all what I made for her.

I was tempted to keep the angel for myself...I just love angels!

My ornament was a cute little strawberry that can also be used as a pin cushion.

My main gifts...a Christmas angel and a bag!

I really enjoyed making these gifts...which makes it harder to part with them!

I think the 2010 SSCS was fantastic and I cant wait for next year!

Christmas wishes

Writing my lists and checking it twice...

Today is the beginning of all I have been putting off.

You know what I mean...

1: Wrapping presents (which I cringe at the thought) My resident wrapper is working up until Christmas Eve!

2: Grocery shopping (kill me now) Anxiety attack at the very thought!

3: Baking (why did I say YES?) Grr...imagining a HUGE mess!

4: Finalising plans - the whole where, when, who and how!

5: Early present drop offs to all my dearest I won't be seeing on the BIG day!

I'm literally exhausted just at the thought!

But, I wouldn't have it any other way...except for the wrapping part!

I do love Christmas...it's my favourite time of year! (really I do!)

My SSCS has arrived!

OMG! I am sooo excited!

Feels like Christmas has come early!

My lovely SSCS partner is Lynn from Hey-Boo !

This is the sweet ornament she made me...

I just love Christmas stockings hanging around...

& these are the rest of my goodies that will be stowed away until Christmas Day.

I just cant wait to open them...I wonder what they are???

I'm counting down the days...not long now!

Arrived safe and sound!

Finally, after much anticipation my lovely SSCS swap partner Barbara emailed me to say she has received my SSCS package in the mail!

What a relief!

It is always a nervous wait...hoping that your parcel of handmade goodies would arrive safely in the hands of the recipient, especially when it's so far away. Actually, my parcel was sent all the way to Switzerland where it is icy cold (-9 degrees) the morning the parcel arrived and snowy! I'm guessing with those weather conditions I'm lucky it arrived to Barbara at all!

This is my tree ornament that I made...

It's a scrumptious Strawberry!

I know it's not Christmassy but I wanted something that could be used after the festive season as well and this little baby makes a great pin cushion too!

The rest of my goodies are a secret until Christmas Day when all will be revealed. I will say though...I am excited and I nearly kept what I made for myself!!!

Hopefully my SSCS items arrive soon too...

The best times are with family...

This weekend gone has been awesome!

I got to spend it with my family at home...we swam, picked mulberries and strawberries, played with the horses, collected eggs, chased foxes, picked flowers, creating (more on that soon), eating my home baked lasagne and swimming somemore!

My poor brother didn't get a second to himself once he got in the pool...!!

It was sad when they all left on Sunday afternoon to go home :'(

The best times are spent with family just doing the little things.

My postie rocks my quilting world!

What can I say...I'm guessing I'm not the only one that pops out of a bush or changes sudden direction of the ride-on mower when the postie van pulls up...am I ???

Look what turned up today...my very own, first issue of Vignette magazine by the super talented, everyone's favourite designer...Leanne Beasley!

Gorgeous photography as always and the pages are just dripping with inspiration too. It's just a shame we have to wait until 1st of March 2011 until the next issue :'(

Also arriving today was some Bliss...

Bonnie and Camille's Bliss actually! Yummy charm packs and also some yardage too. I couldn't resist with the exchange rate being sooo good!

Yesterday afternoon and into the night we had some quite severe storms. Let's just say I was freaking out...let me paint a picture for you...Hail, blackout, strong winds, lightening and thunder zapping everywhere, dogs barking, horses bolting, tree's bending, hail again...and to top it all off, I was home all on my lonesome!

But, I got through it...I survived!

As I sit here writing this post I know it's all going to happen again...I can see the dark clouds rolling in and the thunder making it's way over...oh dear!

I'm outta here to get the candles ready for round 2!

Our beach getaway was very much needed.

Today my hubby and I are heading down the South Coast to our friends beach house for an extended weekend away. It's been ages since we actually went away together so I am really looking forward to it.

I have some great friends that offered to house-sit for us and look after all of our fur babies so we wouldnt have to worry about things back home.

I took this photo through the week. Again it was raining, torential in fact. I have my fingers crossed for sunshine and more sunshine while we are away.

It's raining...AGAIN!

It's certainly a ducks life.

Yesterday, I was ready to go swimming...today, I have trackies and a jumper on!

Without offending anyone, I am seriously wanting at least a week of no rain.

Dam is full, tanks are full, grass is green and needs desperately to be mowed, garden needs tending and I just need to dry out and warm my bones!

So, this morning whilst on my feeding duties I took my trusty camera and snapped away at some things that truly love the rain...and bask in all it's glory...

yep...lovin' it...

I can hear the petals crying out for more...

and then I came across these guys...well, no need to explain...

the picture tells the story with these water lovers

and....you guessed it, some things that just don't!

poor little baby Ruby...she looked like me when I finished feeding up...

NOT IMPRESSED...at all...

But considering rainy days are normally something I look forward too and for me signal a mostly inside snuggly day when it does occur, I have managed to do a bit of a cleanup in the sewing room...and do some preperation for a quilt I am making too.

ahh...tidy...

Now that makes me happy!

I am really excited to be apart of Chookyblue's SSCS for 2010!

This year will be my 3rd year participating in the SSCS. I must say I look forward to it every year!

For the previous 2 years I have made Christmas themed items for my swap partner but I know some people make things that are not Christmas themed. My dilemma is what to make this year???

What would you prefer to receive something Christmas themed or not???

This is what I have made in the past...

1st year I made this wall hanging as my main gift...

2nd year I made a Santa doll...

I just love Christmas, it's my favourite time of the year!

I have been really lucky that both my previous swap partners have loved what I made for them and my partner that received the Santa doll actually collects Santa's so I am assuming he will be shown off this year!

So, please let me know what you think, what would you like to receive and what are you going to make...Christmas themed or not.

Busy times ahead

I have been a very busy girl!

Currently I am putting in some hard yards with a new business venture that I will be launching later in the year.

It has been non stop to say the least but, I am loving every minute of it!

At the moment I am working on my webstore...which a couple of times has had me pulling my hair out!

Luckily my support team (Hubby & Cousin Sharon) have been nurturing me through the hard times. Sadly, being a perfectionist doesn't help...I change things like the weather until I am 100% happy...well 99% anyway. I will get there, eventually...at least thats what I keep telling myself!

It has always been a dream to one day have my own business, be my own boss and love what I do. Well reality is all most here. I am opening my own homewares store! Starting out I will open my store online and then hopefully grow to my very own shop front! I love decorating my own home and always have my friends asking where did you get this from? Can you make mine look like that? How did you do this? Can I have this when you die?! Oh, yes...I get asked that one too often which is a little scary!

I am also going to have my very own candle range too including one for all you quilters out there!

So If you love prims, rustic & romantic country, candles & soft furnishings...watch this space!

Fun!

So far during the school holidays I have had an absolute blast!

Mark and I crazily agreed to have some kids come and stay with us. What originally was to start out as 2 kids quickly turned into 11 in total! Yep, that's right...11 kids all staying with us during the same time and all under the one roof! The word had spread and I was fielding calls from kids near and far wanting to come and stay. We had trailers of motorbikes, scooters, pushbikes and enough toys being delivered by eager parents that I was getting nervous thinking these kids would never be going home!

Here are some pictures of our fun time together...

Gotta love fake teeth...kids had a ball with them at Corey's 7th Birthday Party that we had for him!

Showing off their finds from our Easter Egg hunt...this was heaps of fun and I am so glad I bought these little eggs! The older kids didn't want to be seen by any of their friends in the photo's joining in with the hunt! Teenagers!!!

And, just plain old swimming!

Not to mention hide and seek in the house (even I joined in), the pain in the brain I was suffering from the never ending sounds of motorbikes zipping all around my house for hours on end and the MASSIVE piles of wet towels I had to pickup, wash, dry and find for bath time or swimming!

At the moment I am on the Central Coast visiting with my cousin and her family...and boy have we been having some fun!

This is a little taste of what we have been doing...but I won't be elaborating just yet on what they are for but I think you will get the drift.

Well time for bed for me...heading back home in the morning and I will need a good night sleep!

Decorations for Easter

Talk about scoring a bargain...or 2 or 3 or more!!!

Bed Bath n' Table...one of my favourite stores, had a massive sale...50% off all their decorations for Easter!!!

Now, I normally don't decorate for Easter but I just couldn't resist these goodies!!!

(sorry about the bad light...left it too late in the day)

My hubby just about had a fit when I came home with all this shopping.

"What is that thing??" he exclaimed...(Knowing I couldn't hide it from him - even though I tried)

"What thing??" I replied...(trying to shift his focus)

"That stick thing??"...(He doesn't like it)

"Oh, that...It's an Easter tree and I am going to hang these fake Easter eggs from it"!!!

"Don't you just love it??" I said enthusiastically

With a shake of the head and a roll of his eyes I knew I had to come up with a better reason then Easter decorating for my purchases...especially for the stick thing.

Here are my reasons...

1: I can use the 'stick thing' at Christmas time too!

2: The 9 children we have staying with us from Wednesday will LOVE it as much as me!

3: Instead of having an Easter egg hunt for real eggs, which will make them sick we can use the fake eggs which also won't melt in the sun!

4: Did I mention they were all on sale???

His reply...."Ok, the eggs...great idea, but the stick thing...even if it was free I would have left it there"

Oh well, I guess he doesn't like the tree...but funnily enough when our visitors came over he gladly showed 'the stick thing' off in all it's Easter glory!

Hope you all had a lovely Easter with your family and friends...we did!

Fresh garden goodness

I just love the smell of fresh lemons and limes.

At the moment we have so many on our tree's at home that we are picking every couple of days just to reduce the stress off the bending branches!

Look at this lot from today...

A full washing basket collected today!!!

It won't be long and these lovely little babies will be ripe for the picking too...

Inspired to use my abundance of garden goodies in a way that will let me enjoy them year round.

You guessed it...Preserving!

Jodie is the preserving queen of blogland and she so needs to put her recipe's and tips into a book!!!

I already had a book called 'A year in a bottle' by Sally Wise that has some delicious recipe's for things like;

Lemon & lime cordial, lemon marmalade, homemade lemonade and mandarin jam!!!

I have also been considering getting some chickens...now for all of you that know me you know I have a bad case of This!!!

I know, I know...I must be having a weak moment to even consider it, but we have a nice little Chook pen out back and I guess that if I could bribe my hubby to collect the eggs, feed them scraps and make sure they are comfortable then it shouldn't be a problem!

Yes, it's been a while

I am a slacko!

It's been so long since I posted...

The case of the missing camera and charger has been solved, thankfully!

Now I am on a photo taking spree, trying to catch up with all thats been happening in my little world. I'm dizzy just thinking about it!

I purchased this adorable new book from here by Barri Sue Gaudet from Bareroots fame!

The book is called Quilt a gift.

The projects in this book are beautiful!

My days have been pretty exhausting...I am either working part time or organising our new place, digging in the garden or cleaning the pool...it seems to be never ending but, Mark has assured me that there is light at the end of this very long tunnel we have been travelling through of late.

So here is the new place...I LOVE it!

It is so peaceful...and the fur babies love it too!

This is what I made for my swap partner...Chreyl in the USA!

I was thrilled when Cheryl advised me she collects Santa's...what a fluke!

I love making dolls...Santa was no exception.

With Christmas done...it was soon my birthday...and piles and piles of fat 1/4's have been arriving for me.

I joined 2 swap groups last year...the first being Maree's Birthday swap from My Verandah and the second being all those rockstars from Nundle!

Today I received 2 more parcels and one was posted on the 18/12!!!

Australia Post is certainly living up to the snail mail name that's for sure...I'm not to stressed though...I'm sure a lot of parcels have been caught up in the Christmas post.

So a BIG BIG thank you to all of you girls for your Birthday wishes and gifts!!!

Dawnie must have been reading my mind...she made me a mobile phone cover which I needed for my new mobile and also a retractable tape measure stitched perfectly!

Also my SSCS gifts arrived today in a BIG box!

I havent opened it up just yet, but I am busting too...I just don't think I can wait until Christmas Day!

Done and dusted!

I am DONE!!!

Although I have been quiet on the blogging front (sorry about that) I have actually been busily

finishing off my SSCS gifts for my swap partner in ....???(haha...tricked ya)

I have given the laptop the flick and been pulling a couple of all nighters...well, only last night really to finish off what seemed like the never ending stitch-a-thon. I am very proud of myself to say the least. Now I can stop freaking out as I am DONE & DUSTED with the SSCS for another year!!!

Thanks Chookyblue for organising the swap again...you are awesome!!!

I have managed to do some shopping though...check out my goodies!!!

I am so in love with this fabric range by French General, it's called Rouenneries and it is super scrumptious!!!

I have also ordered from Fabric Depot (which has 35% off online orders at the moment) the Ascot Manor range which I have also fallen in love with!!!

I am just lovin' it all at the moment!!!

Where have the days gone?

It feels like forever since I last blogged...1 whole month since my last posting!

The days are just passing me by, but I get the feeling I am not the only one who feels this way.

Well, finally I finished work on the 30th September and I have been flat out ever since.

I have been on a horse riding camp, rider education days, horse education days, Gymkhana's, Dressage days, birthday parties, farewell parties...the list is endless!!! I certainly have enjoyed being out in the fresh air and getting some sunshine...and to top it off loads of horsey fun! I have missed the intense smell of manure, coming home filthy dirty with horse hair everywhere...and now fly's...hmm...I certainly don't miss those little pests!

I must admit that I am feeling a lot better than I have felt in a very long time. I am still on the road to recovery and am hoping to have my operation soon which fingers crossed, will make me feel close to 100% again. It's a waiting game at the moment for things to stabilise and then it's all systems go.

Sewing...yes, lots of it actually. I have changed my mind about what I was going to make for my SSCS partner...I am totally loving what I have made and am now onto the next piece of the present.

My only hint is lots of rusty bells and christmas coloured felt!

Thankyou so much to everyone that sent their condolences for my beloved horse Shannon. My other horse Jazz has a new friend now after missing Shannon so much...It's good to see her happy again.

My pets are my babies and I love them all so much!

Seeing RED

Yes, I am seeing RED!

I have a serious stash of RED fabric for a quilt that I have been wanting to get started on for ages!

I have to confess I am a little nervous to say the least...RED!!!

My quandry is....'What if the colour runs into the whites'???

So I am needing some advice.

I intend to wash it all before I get to work on it but is there something I need to wash it in to prevent running???

I certainly don't want to end up with a RED and PINK quilt!

Normally...I don't pre-wash fabrics but...this time I think I have too!

Mad woman possessed!

I have been collecting like a mad woman possessed!

Gathering up goodies for some up and coming events.

I am a huge Hatched and Patched fan and just love these cute little pin cushions...arn't they sweet???

Well, I couldn't resist and they just jumped into my arms and came home with me...

I have also been adding to my collection of felt...totally loving the colour range.

Got some great ideas for this lovely stash...especially with Christmas not to far away...I better sit down...just mentioning Christmas give me a headache!!!

and...this yummy stash of Christmas (oops...sharp pain to the temple) fabrics!

I purchased these online at the Fat Quarter Shop and just fell in love with them. Candy Canes, Christmas (ouch!) tree's and the reddest of reds!!!

These fabrics will be used for my project for the SSCS that Chookyblue has organised once again.

Can't wait to get started.

Maybe it's because I am finishing work in like....2 weeks (yippee) that I am shopping up a storm, all with good cause of course.

Oh, my next post I will show you some pictures form the Where Woman Create magazine...

I am totally lovin' the inspiring workspaces of some super talented ladies, especially Joanna Figueroa from Fig Tree Quilts....I certainly have a little 'workspace envy' going on!!!

At the end of the month I will be finishing up work. As you may know I have been sick for a while now and after getting some much anticipated results back I realised it's time I focused on getting healthy again and caught up on some much needed sleep...zzz!!! (yes, I love my sleep)

I am really looking forward to spending time with my hubby as well...It's a bit hard when he works afternoon shift and me on day's. I never get to see him!!! There will be so many things I will be able to enjoy again like a little more blogging and a lot more sewing.

Snippets of everything!

Luckily there was no washing on the line when I got home from work today.

This is what greeted me...I like to call them my happy clouds...they make me happy because they genenrally bring me rain to make everything fresh and fill up the tanks...well lets just say it looked worse than it's bite :(

My photo's havent been loaded in the right order so my post is a bit all over the place.

I have been loving these little strawberries for ages now and have been busy putting some together...this is one of them. Remember the flowers I was making ages ago??? Well, this is what they were for!

I am actually hoping to plant some real ones in the patch on the weekend too!

My photo's didn't turn out that great because of the storm clouds...but you get the idea I'm sure.

I was so lucky to meet up with some of my dear blogland friends at the Sydney Stitches and Craft Show not long ago...Anita and I headed off together to meet up with some very cool chicks indeed. I felt like I was in the company of Rock Stars!!! I was waiting for people to start fainting...all I could hear was grown women yelling "OMG...it's Chookyblue"!!! What a classic...we all posed for our photo's to be taken and were even filmed by some crazy "Chookyblue" fan!!!

I had a great day and was super impressed by the fun loving Jodie from Ric Rac. Jodie gave a talk about blogging at the show...what a blast! Jodie...you rock!!!

I also received a lovely PIF surprise from my dear friend Maree from Farmyard Crafts. Check out my totally awesome bag!!! I love it Maree...thank you so much!!!
Thanks to Chooky too for her beautiful gift for me as well...I got my very own 'Chookyblue' designed cards, notepad and calander...I was so spoilt...and loved every minute of it!!!

Anita...you are the best person I could ever have for a road trip!!! xox

Some of you may or may not know that I have been just a little bit sick of late with a stay in the hospital, sadly my situation is still continuing!! STILL NO ANSWERS!! Grr...!!

I am so bored it's driving me crazy!!

I have managed to do a little bit of sewing but my shaky hands are not giving me the nicest stitch which frustrates me, so little bits at a time is in order I think for that activity. The rustic stitch I like to call it ;)

Oops!

My poor dollies!

I found these 2 hiding in a basket in my sewing room and I think it's about time I made them some clothes, don't you???

I really enjoy making fabric dolls and have quite a few around the house, much to my husbands distress! Oh well...they make it more homely and if I add some wings...ta da...my favourite...Angels!

I just need to pick out some fabric for their clothes and then they will no longer be naked...or forgotten!

My first doll I ever made was the brunt of jokes in my house for ages. In excitement I ran out to DH declaring how totally awesome my new dolly was only to have him ask the question..."Where is it's arms???" I didn't even notice until he rudely pointed it out!

After some cutting, stitching and stuffing my dolly finally had some arms...Thankfully!

DH did tell me not to worry about it and just make it a cape!Very funny DH!

In my moment of madness I also found some yummy wool that I had planned on making a scarf with. Now I am not a knitter by any means, but, I am going to give it a go. I am a lefty and for some reason have never quite mastered knitting. I will keep you posted on my efforts though. I might have a scarf completed by.....Hmm....winter next year!

Knit one, pearl one....drop 3!!! Grrr.....!!!

Time out

I am just about ready to go to sleep but thought I had better blog as it has been way too long!

This weekend Mark and I took Corey away with us to visit my cousin Sharon and her family at Saratoga. We had a great time...and I am totally in love with her new beach themed home! It's just awesome!

Yesterday we went to Avoca Beach and walked along the rocks...careful to avoid slipping and watched the sea roll in against them. We couldn't help ourselves and even inscribed our names on the rocks...the kids thought it was really cool! We even had a hot chips by the seaside and much to my joy...no seagulls! I am seriously afraid of birds and seagulls are my arch nemesis!

We have had heaps of rain at home with our dam overflowing into the creek and our tanks are full to the brim!

My babies Jazz and Shannon went to a retreat while we were away getting a full horsey makeover...teeth, feet and even a massage. It's a horses life! They will be away for 2 weeks to give the paddocks time to dry out and me a little bit of a sleep in.

Long time no blog!

Since starting work fulltime after a 2 year break has certainly had me living life in the fast lane!

But, I have had time for a little bit of shopping.

I am so in love with these babies as well. A gorgeous shabby caddy, cost $7 and the larger caddy $12. I am planning on using these in my bathrooms. The larger caddy will be for holding towels and washers and the other one will be for a similar thing. I thought these were such a bargain I couldn't resist buying 2 of each!

How cute are these....totally in love with these pretties!

I am planning on using these for display props for a business idea I have buzzing around in the background at the moment.

You will all find out soon what it is!

Last but not least is this gorgeous wrought iron quilt rack.

It has hearts on either end.

It was an Ebay find. Cost $40. The lady told me she paid over $100 for it!

What a bargain!!

All it needs now is some of my quilts hanging on it!

Way too long...

I am so sorry....I have been in blogland hiatus for way too long!

Plus, I miss you guys!

Not much happening here with me....work, horse riding lessons, study, housework....pretty much the norm of late. Mark and I did manage to have dinner together at a nice restaurant on Saturday night though, which was good considering I don't see him through the week anymore! When I am asleep at night Mark is at work and when I go to work he is asleep. So, I get a lot of me time...probably too much.

Nothing happening here as far as sewing except the hem on my work pants! BORING!

I need to surf through my favourite blogs for some inspiration and much needed motivation!

What do you do to stay motivated???

What a week!

No sleep in's, no chillin' out and certainly no down time!

I have had such a full on week...you know the kind? I hear you all loud and clear!

Yep...you know what I mean.

Here are some pics of what I saw at the Sydney Royal Easter show on Saturday.

Totally awesome!

If you have the opportunity I recommend going.

I went with my cousins and their children and boy did I have fun! I went on the 'Worm' roller coaster with Logan and finished the day off with a ride on a massive ferris wheel and hysterical laughing because my cousin Sharon hates heights and felt ill while Logan was balling her eyes out scared out of her witts! Sorry guys...I loved the ride and haven't had a laugh like that for so long ;)

Just sorry it was at your expense!!! Ha-ha!!!

It was so lovely to arrive home from work with a parcel waiting for me.

What, who, why??? I had know idea...so I opened it up to find this!
The lovely Julia from Billberry Grove (see side bar for link) sent me a fabric cone filled with yummy Easter goodness. Julia, I love it...Thank you and heaps of cyber hugs to you.
Your gift made my day :)

I also managed to get some goodies last week that I didn't have time to post so here is some eye candy for you. Finally, I bought some of the jumbo ric rac in green that I have been wanting for ages and forgot to get in Nundle!

Today saw me up early AGAIN after a 30th birthday party last night (Happy Birthday Brookie) to attend a horsie event...fun!

It's freezing here so I am about to get my clothes ready for work tomorrow and head to bed.

Working girl....(not that kind)!!!

It's official...I am now a working girl again!

I started my new full time job on Tuesday...although it is a lot of information to absorb, I am quite excited. I can't wait for my first pay so I can have a big splurge!! Shh...don't tell Mark!

I do miss my babies though...horses, cats, dogs etc. I also miss my nanna naps too!!!

I can't believe how early I have been going to bed and getting up....that's scary! Can't wait for a weekend sleep in!! haha!!

Anyway, I have some pics to share of my favourite girl, my niece Sienna!

This weekend my cousin Sharon and her family will be visiting. We are off to the show on saturday and I can't wait but, sadly...I opened my big mouth and we are leaving early in the morning so we can watch some of the events. Sharon's gorgeous daughter Logan can't wait to see the horses too...maybe she might have a ride too!

Anyway, I need to get to bed...I am walking on my eyelashes!

I do have some pics to share of some yummy fabric and my BOM installment but I have been to tired to take pics...soon I promise!

Lovely labels

I have some big plans for these lovelies!

I just need to collect more glass jars for my plans to work.

These are some of my favourites...mind you, I love them all!

The coffee smell is divine as well...yum!

After hearing a few yahoo's and whoopie's I looked up to see this little dangling man in the sky!

We see these parachutists all the time where we live.
They are just not easy to catch on camera though.
Occassionally there are a few strays that drift off course and you will often see them walking around carrying the chutes heading back to base on the otherside of the freeway.

I can honestly say that I will NEVER, EVER jump out of a plane. Even when our daredevil friends try to convince me otherwise...my answer will always be NO WAY!!!

What's been happening...???

I am so excited...guess what???

I got my new job that I applied for!!! yippee!!!

I start on the 14th April and can't wait.

Centrelink...here I come!!!

I just had to share this picture of Jazz in her new winter rug.

With the mass rainfall we have been experiencing here, this has been fantastic for her...keeping her super warm and dry!!!

Although I was a little...annoyed when I saw her rolling in the mud with it!!!

Oh well!!!

Finally, Jazz's companion Shannon has arrived.

I am really happy to report that they have hit it off really well. Sharing their food, grazing together...and just plain old chillin' out.

Check Shannon's tongue out...he had just had a juicy carrot and pear and was licking his lips for ages after.

Still no phone or net...the pit has now turned into a river so who knows how long it's going to take to get repaired :(

Well, the footy is on so I am going to relax on the lounge for a bit and then head to bed for an early night...this flu is really zapping me of energy :(

Oh, and a big hello to all of the Nundle crew....gee I wish we all lived closer....you guys are all totally awesome!!!

Bugger!

The rain we have had of late has turned the telecommunications pit in our paddock into a swamp and now we have NO home phone and NO Internet!

Luckily for me, I have a lovely friend which has once again came to the rescue and lent me his wireless internet thingy!!! Thanks Steve!!!

Oh, feeling a bit sore and sorry for myself today...fell off Jazz yesterday and I have the flu from hell and feel like crap. Oh, well.

So until everything gets fixed with the internet I wont be posting much as this connection is really slowwwwwwwwww...don't despair I will be back!

GDITC Nundle 2009 - Part 1 - The Projects!

Friday morning had Anita and I starting out on our road trip to Nundle for GDITC Retreat.

I was so excited as this was my very first retreat!

5 and a bit hours later we arrived here...

Getting ready for Nundle!

Today is going to be busy, busy, busy!

I have made my list of everything I need to take to Nundle for my very first retreat!

I am really excited now! It is called Girls day in the Country and guest designers will be Leanne Beasley from Leanne's House and Rosalie Quinlan from Rosalie Quinlan designs. I can't wait to meet these very talented ladies that are also 2 of my very favourite designers!

Anita from Riley's Ramblings is going to be my roadtrip partner for Nundle. I will be picking her up bright and early for our little adventure. I have a feeling we will be chatting so much over these next few days that I won't have a voice on my return home.

Shannon is an old boy needing a girl friend...and it just so happens that my Jazz needs a boyfriend!

After Nundle Shannon will be coming home to live out his days with us.

He is an Appy and is 20 something years old. He has a gentle nature and a big fat belly.
Luckily for him we have a Jenny Craig paddock!

These pics were taken in 2007 but he hasnt really changed that much except a little more grey hair! I can't believe I forgot my camera!! Grrr....I hate that!!

Molly is settling in really well too and today went for a walk up close to meet Jazz. I kept her on her lead just in case...but all went well.

I can't wait to snap my Christmas cards this year...don't you think they will all look so cute in their reindeer ears and santa hats??? Hubby thinks I am crazy but our family and friends just love their cards from us.

Oh, just to clear something up....I now have 2 pets, cat and dog by the name of Molly. We just have to deal with it as you can't change their names.

I found Molly on a website needing a new home. She is 9 years old, but a very active senior citizen and came all the way from Melbourne!

My dog Rove loves her to bits and he even gets to sleep in garage tonight with her until she settles in a bit. There are a lot of strange things around here that she has never seen before. We had a giggle today when she saw some parachutists jumping out of planes above our house...she didnt know which way to look...or when she saw Jazz the horse walking up to say hello she was like....what the!!! She doesn't like the goats or the Alpaca's but hey I don't like them much either.

The next addition will be upon my return from Nundle for my very first retreat.

Jazz my horse will be getting a new friend as well....his name is Shannon and I am visiting him tomorrow.

I have had the best weekend ever!

Friday night had me on the Central Coast with my hubby in tow. We headed to my cousins place at Saratoga for a massive night out with heaps of 'Rock n Roll'!!!

Since our dear Zac has passed our other dog Rovie is suffering from doggie depression. He is very lonely and needs a pal to spend endless hours exploring, playing or just plain old sleeping.

Surprise Mail & fun stuff

'WOW'

Look what came for me in the mail today!

The lovely designer, Judith Tetley sent me these gorgeous little Key Chain fobs.

Aren't they just the cutest???

Judith, thank you so much...I love them!!!

Judith has also agreed to allow me to interview her and post her responses to my questions on my blog. There are so many things I would love to ask a designer if I had the chance so I guess now I will!

So stay tuned for that one.

Also, if you are going to Nundle you will have the chance to meet Judith as she had her arm somewhat 'twisted' into going! Can't wait to meet you Judith :)

Now for some fun stuff.

These last few weeks have been the worst for Mark and I...we have suffered much loss that I am sure you wouldn't believe If I told you. Hopefully our unlucky run is over...fingers crossed.

Last Saturday night we had a heap of friends over for a karaoke show. My Uncle is starting up his own show and wanted to do a trial run.... boy did we have a blast!

The rent-a-crowd went wild!!!

This is some of the crew waiting for the show to begin...I don't have pics during the show because my camera battery died and also because I was having so much fun.

The next day I played the Wii with my cousins. I am a bowling champion....not to good at golf or tennis though. I know what I want for Christmas this year!!

Thank you to everyone for their condolences and support over this difficult time.

Lucky charm

Ok, with my fingers crossed and my hand on my heart, I hope that after the end of this week that all this bad luck will be past me.

Like many others I have experienced many trials and tribulations these last weeks.

I don't think my heart has ever hurt so much in such a short time.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that has left me messages of support over the last few weeks. Your friendship has meant a lot to me and I sincerely appreciate it.

I HEART BLOGLAND!

So, I hereby declare my 4 leaf clover as my lucky charm! Well, here's hoping!

Enough sadness...time to pick up my chin and move on!

This weekend had us visiting my cousin Sharon and her family on the Central Coast. Her home is totally gorgeous and right on the water front at Saratoga!

We all had the best night singing Karaoke and looking through old photo's and family video's.

What a crack up!

I am also booked in to spend time in Nundle at my very first retreat. It is called 'Girls day in the Country' with guest designers Rosalie Quinlan and Leanne Beasley. After hearing about all the fun that was had last year at this event I knew I had to go! I am so excited and can't wait to meet fellow bloggers like Chookyblue, Anita from Riley's Ramblings, Shelley from Angels come to play and my dear friend Maree from Farmyard Crafts.

We are going to have a BLAST!!!

Loss...

Words can not describe the devestation that is sweeping through Australia.

The loss of lives, homes, possessions...the list goes on.

People not knowing if their family members are alive...wandering with only the clothes on their backs. I can't begin to imagine what they must be feeling.

My heart goes out to each and every person affected by this tragedy.

On a different note....

Yesterday I found my beloved dog 'Zac' had passed away under his favourite shade tree.

We think he had met his match with a snake and sadly come off second best.

I will miss you buddy!

You were my best friend, a great listener and confidante.

You're love and loyalty will be greatly missed.
